Steven Finn

Steven Finn (or "Finny") is a former England fast bowler who played 126 games for England, including 36 Tests, and part of three Ashes-winning squads. Domestically, he played for Middlesex and subsequently Sussex, before retiring in 2023 aged 34 and is still the youngest Englishman to take 50 Test Match wickets.

Since then, Finny has carved out an ever-expanding broadcast career, building everything around the iconic Test Match Special on BBC Radio 5 Live, including BBC TV Sport’s Test Highlights and The Hundred, we then have winter cricket on TNT Sports and throughout the summer, occasionally on Sky Sports.

Aside from TV and Radio, Finny also hosts popular podcast ‘Zero Ducks Given’ alongside Toby Tarrant and Daniel Norcross, providing a hilarious look at the week’s cricket action.

Finny knows the emotional highs and lows of Ashes cricket better than most. Though he played over 120 times for England and took more than 250 wickets, it was his clashes with Australia that defined him. At 21, he helped secure England’s historic 2010 Ashes win and went on to feature in three victorious campaigns.

But his career also had a darker chapter. During the disastrous 5-0 defeat in 2014, Finn was sent home after losing confidence and his bowling action. Determined to return, he rebuilt his game and played a key role in England’s 2015 Ashes triumph.

Drawing on his personal diaries, The Ashes Files offers a raw, honest look at the elation, despair, and resilience of life as an international cricketer facing England’s oldest rivals.
